The second planting of the new green barrier for the 5th Ave dog play area was a success. More than twenty people volunteered to plant bushes and trees at the south end of the 5th avenue dog play area on Saturday January 25th. Neighborhood organizer Martin Allperen has spent many months working with SF Recreation and Parks Department (SFRPD) to make the dog area safer. The major concern is the south end of the space although high from Lincoln Way was still a porous barrier for dogs.
The first planting was in November. Smalls trees were planted along the high southern edge. The second planting was assisted by the Bridgeman, a volunteer group from the San Francisco Aids Foundation. Tory from SF Recreation and Parks Department was so impressed with the turn out that he needed to some time to think about where to plant next!
The next time you enter Golden Gate Park at 5th Avenue, take a look on the left side up high from inside the grassy area and see the new trees and bushes.
